There was a recent Nissan class action lawsuit that involved Nissan North America and their consumers. The lawsuit alleged that this Japanese manufacturer intentionally sold Nissan vehicles with faulty continuous variable transmissions (CVTs) to their consumers. This lawsuit was just one out of the many lawsuits that these manufacturers had received.
The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is one of the vehicles affected by this lawsuit. If you want to know different lawsuits affecting Nissan, the different 2022 Nissan Pathfinder problems, and the benefits available to if you do file a lemon law claim, read this.
The Pathfinder isn’t the only Nissan with recurring complaints — we’ve also covered Nissan’s CVT transmission problems, another issue owners have run into.
The 2022-2024 Nissan Class Action Lawsuits.
Asides the first lawsuit with the North American consumers, Nissan also had a similar lawsuit where they were accused of still selling vehicles with faulty or defective CVT transmissions to their consumers. For this particular lawsuit, Nissan agreed to pay more than $277 million as settlement to resolve the issue. This lawsuit involved the following models:
- 2014 – 2018 Nissan Rogue
- 2015 – 2018 Nissan Pathfinder
- 2015 – 2018 Infiniti QX60
In 2020, three different class action lawsuits were filed against Nissan for the same claim – intentionally selling vehicles with defective CVT transmissions. Again, Nissan agreed to pay for the settlement. These lawsuits covered:
- 2012 – 2017 Nissan Versa
- 2014 – 2017 Nissan Versa Note
- 2013 – 2017 Nissan Sentra
- 2013 – 2016 Nissan Altima
- 2013 – 2017 Nissan Juke
The most recent lawsuit filed against Nissan alleges that several vehicles were equipped with faulty CVTs and although the manufacturer knew about these problems, they didn’t attempt to fix it. And so, many vehicles began to have transmission related issues, even when they hadn’t been driven for so many miles.
Some 2022 Nissan Pathfinder Problems
There have been several complaints about 2022 Nissan Pathfinder problems such as, issues with the service breaks, issues with seats, and electrical system issues.
Issues with Service Brakes
There have been complaints of premature wear and tear with the hydraulic brake systems and fixing this requires a lot of money.
A lot of consumers have complained that their break systems wear out so fast requiring replacements every now and then.
Issues with Seats
Drivers have complained about issues with the driver’s seat which were not well welded. There was a recall because there were also reports of issues with the Secondary hood latcher retainer bracket which sometimes allows the hood to open if the primary hood latch is not engaged, and so, obstructing the driver’s view while driving and increasing the risk of a crash.
There was also a recall because there were complaints that the headrests move or detach and do not adequately restrain occupants in a crash, and so increasing the risk of injury.
Another recall was made because of issues with the vehicle’s back seats which had separated welds and may not be able to adequately restrain occupants during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Electrical System Issues
There have been several complaints relating to the electrical system of the vehicle, ranging from infotainment system problems (such as system freezing or lagging), to issues with ignition, and finally, to issues with the rear view camera(this lead to a recall on July 21, 2022 because drivers complained of not being able to reverse or see the objects or obstacles behind them).
Other problems include: sunroof leaks, wireless charger overheating, and transmission shifting issues.
2022 Nissan Pathfinder Problems and Consumer Complaints.
A consumer complained on Edmunds that:
“At this time car has been in dealer a total of 6 weeks. Nissan never gave me any rental cars. Now at 16k miles the rear brakes are smoked… front brakes are in perfect shape at 8mm left.. rear is 2.5 MM. and rotors are also warped so will need full brake replacement. This car is the worst car I have ever driven its not reliable and the trade value of this car is worse than a high end sports car. Its lost over 25k value in just a year and 16K miles.”
Another consumer complaint on Edmunds that:
“Although I have enjoyed driving my 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, something seems to be wrong with the brake system. I had the car less than 1 year and had to replace the whole back brakes because they wore out quickly. This is unheard of on a vehicle with less than 12,000 miles! Especially back brakes. When I spoke to the dealership that sold us the vehicle, we were quite disappointed in the run-a-round we received. Nissan did not want to take responsibility for the bad brake system wearing out so quickly, they simply said it was a wear and tear item and not under warranty. This cost us over $1,000 to fix. 5 months later I took the car in for an oil change and already, the brake pads went from 8mm down to 5mm in just that amount of time. Clearly something is wrong.”
A complaint was also made about the infotainment system:
“The screen for the navigation and controls goes black randomly. A couple times it would come back on when the car was shut off and restarted. The drivers side heated seat didn’t work from day 1. Front end has a shaking when braking and driving at over about 55 mph. I have been locked out of the car and had to call roadside assistance in a rain storm. I had it to the dealer for a couple weeks. They said the shifter was dirty and so was the seat belt on the passengers side. I’m sure they didn’t know what was wrong so they said it was dirty to cover their lack of knowledge. After being in the shop the car will go into Neutral while driving randomly. I almost got run over by a semi on I-95.”
